As at each edition since 92, most of the practical reception functions have been handed over to volunteers from Brest associations: first of all entrances, where they need to make sure people get through quickly to enter the festival, then at the information stands, where visitors can find all the updated information, about the overall programme and the day’s in particular, as well as on the gangways and pontoons, where they will be looking after security and boat access.
Volunteers will also be present at the gateways to check politely and clearly, that people have the right of access.
The goal is of course to enable visitors to enjoy their day as much as possible, by being well informed, directed and guided.
All of this requires the presence of around 650 people at any one time on the site. Based around three shifts of five hours that means around 2000 volunteers per day will be involved!
These volunteers are the inhabitants of the Brest metropolitan area, who wish to take part in this maritime event and are honouring the city they are so proud of. By giving up a little of their time, (5 hours a day), they can actively enjoy the festival and see what it is like from the inside, but also contribute to the development of their own association’s project: Indeed, the 150 local associations that have signed up to work alongside BREST 2008 and who are managing the arrangements, will be receiving a fair payment according to the number of hours worked by their volunteers.
